Before Removing Clothes

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ

Bismi-llāh

In the Name of Allah.

Anas b. Mālik (raiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah  said: “The screen between the jinn and the nakedness of the children of Ādam when they take off their garments is that they say [the above].” (Tabarānī in Muʿjam al-Awsa 7066)

After Wearing Clothes

Alamdu li-llāhi-l-ladhī kasānī hādha-th-thawb, wa razaqanīhi min ghayri awli-m-minnī wa lā quwwah.

All praise is to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, without any power or might from me.

Mu’ādh b. Anas (raiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrated that the Prophet said: “If anyone puts on a garment and says [the above], his past and future sins will be forgiven.” (Abū Dāwūd 4023, Tirmidhī 3458)

When Wearing New Clothes

Allāhumma laka-l-amdu Anta kasawtanīhi, as’aluka min khayrihi wa khayri mā uniʿa lahu, wa aʿūdhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri mā uniʿa lahu.

O Allah, all praise is for You! as You have clothed me, I ask You for its good and the good of that for which it was made, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of that for which it was made.

Abū Saʿīd al-Khudhrī (raiy Allāhu ‘anhu) reported that when the Messenger of Allah put on clothes, he would name each item – whether it was a shirt, pair of trousers or turban – and say: [the above]. (Abū Dāwūd 4020, Tirmidhī 1767)

To be Said to Someone Wearing New Clothes

تُبْلِيْ وَيُخْلِفُ اللّٰهُ تَعَالَىٰ

Tublī wa yukhlifu-llāhu taʿālā

May you wear it out and Allah replace it (with another)

Abū Narah said: When any of the Companions of the Prophet put on a new garment, [the above] was said to him. (Abū Dāwūd 4020)
