Hajj & Umrah

When in the State of Ihram

Allāhumma ajjatun la riyā’a fiha, wa lā sumata.

O Allah, a Hajj in which there is no showing off nor reputation sought.

Anas b. Mālik (raiy Allāhu anhu) narrated: The Prophet performed Hajj on an old saddle, wearing a cloak that was worth four Dirham or less. Then he said: O Allah, a Hajj in which there is no showing off nor reputation sought.’” (Ibn Mājah 2890)

Talbiyah in hajj & ʿUmrah

Labbayk Allāhumma labbayk, labbayka lā sharīka laka labbayk, inna-l-amda, wa-n-niʿmata, laka wa-l-mulk, lā sharīka lak.

At Your service, Allah, at Your service. At Your service, You have no partner, at Your service. Truly all praise, favour and sovereignty is Yours; You have no partner.

ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar (radiy Allāhū anhumā) narrates that the talbiyah of the Messenger of Allah was [the above]. (Bukhārī 1549)

When Reaching the al-hajar al-Aswad (Black Stone)

Allāhu Akbar.

Allah is the Greatest.

Ibn ʿAbbās (radiy Allāhū ʿanhumā) narrates that the Messenger of Allah performed awāf (of the Kaʿbah) riding a camel (at that time the Prophet had a foot injury). Whenever he came to the Corner (where the Black Stone is located), he would point out towards it with a thing in his hand and say [the above]. (Bukhārī 1632)

Between the al-Rukn al-Yamani (Yemeni Corner) & al-hajar al-Aswad (Black Stone)

Rabbanā ātinā fi-d-dunyā asanah wa fil-ākhirati asanah wa qinā ʿadhāba-n-Nār.

Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the Fire.

ʿAbdullāh ibn as-Sā’ib (radiy Allāhū ʿanhu) narrated: I heard the Messenger of Allah say [the above] between the two corners (Rukn al-Yamānī and ajar al-Aswad).” (Abū Dāwūd 1892)

At Maqam Ibrahim (Station of Ibrahim)

Wa-takidhū min maqāmi Ibrāhīma muallā.

[You may] take the standing-place of Ibrahim as a site of prayer. (2:125)

Jābir (raiy Allāhu anhu) said: “…Then the Messenger of Allah came to the Maqām (Ibrahim) and said [the above]. He raised his voice so the people heard him and prayed two rakʿahs with the Maqām between him and the Kaʿbah. In the first rakʿah, he recited Sūrah al-Ikhlās, and in the second rak’ah, he recited Sūrah al-Kāfirūn.” (Nasā’ī 3929)

When Beginning the Sa’i at safa

Abda’u bi-mā bad’allāhu bihi, inna--afā wa-l-Marwata min shaʿāiri-llah,

Indeed, afā and Marwa are from the Signs of Allah. I begin with that which Allah has begun with.

Each Time on Safa & Marwah

Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, lā ilāha illā-llāhu wadahū lā sharīka lah, lahu-l-mulku wa lahu-l-amdu yuyī wa yumīt, wa Huwa ʿalā kulli shayin Qadīr, lā ilāha illā-llāh, anjaza waʿdah, wa naara ʿabdah, wa hazama-l-azāba wadah.

There is no god but Allah. He is Alone and He has no partner whatsoever. To Him Alone belong all sovereignty and all praise. He gives life and He gives death. He is over all things All-Powerful. There is no deity except Allah alone. He fulfilled His promise, supported His slave and defeated the confederates alone.

Jābir (raiy Allāhu anhu) said: The Messenger of Allah went to afā and Marwa and recited [the above]. He began with afā and climbed it until he could see the Kaʿbah, then he turned to face the qiblah and proclaimed the Oneness of Allah and magnified Him.” (Muslim 1218)

Between safa & Marwa

Rabbi-ghfir wa-ram innaka Anta-l-Aʿazzul Akram.

O my Lord, forgive, have mercy. Truly You are the Most Mighty, the Most Noble.

ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd (radiy Allāhū anhumā) and ʿAbdullah b. ʿUmar (radiy Allāhū anhumā) would both say [the above] during the walking between afā and Marwa. (abarānī in al-Duʿā’ 870)

On the Day of ʿArafah

Lā ilāha illā-Allāh, wadahū lā sharīka lah, lahu-l-mulk, wa lahu-l-amd, wa Huwa ʿalā kulli shayin Qadīr.

There is no god worthy of worship but Allah. He is Alone and He has no partner whatsoever. To Him Alone belong all sovereignty and all praise. He is over all things All-Powerful.

Ibn ‘Amr (radiy Allāhū ‘anhumā) narrates that the Messenger of Allah said: The best duʿā’ is the duʿā’ of the day of ʿArafah. The best of what I and the Prophets before me have said is [the above].” (Tirmidhī 3585)

On Every Throw at the Jamarat

Allāhu Akbar.

Allah is the Greatest.

Al-Zuhrī (raimahullāh) narrated: Whenever the Messenger of Allah stoned the Jamarah (pillar) near Mina Mosque, he would throw seven small pebbles and say takbīr on each pebble. Then he would go ahead and stand facing the qiblah with his hands raised, supplicating (to Allah). He would stand for a long period. Then he would come to the second Jamarah (al-Wusā) and stone it with seven small pebbles, reciting takbīr on each pebble. Then he would stand facing the qiblah with his hands raised, supplicating (to Allah). Then he would come to the Jamarah (al ʿaqabah) and throw seven small pebbles, reciting takbīr on each pebble. He would then leave and not stay by it (to supplicate).

Al- Zuhrī (raimahullāh) narrated: I heard Sālim b. ʿAbdullāh saying the same that his father said on the authority of the Prophet . (Bukhārī 1753)
