Early Life and Prophethood

Hud AS was a prophet sent by Allah to guide the people of 'Ad, who lived in the region of Ahqaf, which is believed to be in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula. Hud AS was a descendant of Noah's son Shem, a lineage that would later include Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his progeny. Allah endowed Hud AS with prophethood to guide his people who had drifted away from monotheism and begun indulging in idol worship and moral corruption.

The People of 'Ad

The people of 'Ad were known for their remarkable strength and impressive construction abilities. They built towering structures and lived in luxury, boasting about their wealth and achievements. However, their hearts were hardened, and they greatly disregarded the poor and needy. Moreover, they worshiped multiple gods, attributing their prosperity to these false deities rather than Allah.

Hud AS's Message and Rejection by the People of 'Ad

Prophet Hud AS began his mission by calling his people back to monotheism, worshipping one God, Allah. He advised them to abandon their idol worship and arrogance, reminding them that their wealth and power were blessings from Allah, not the result of their own doing or their false gods. He warned them of the consequences of their actions, telling them that if they continued on their current path, they would face severe punishment from Allah.

Despite his tireless efforts and warnings, most of the 'Ad people rejected Hud's AS message. They mocked him, accused him of being a liar, and continued their sinful practices. They were unable to see past their pride, rejecting the idea of a punishment or consequence for their actions.

The Punishment of 'Ad

When it became clear that the people of 'Ad would not repent, Allah sent them a severe drought. However, instead of recognizing this as a warning sign, they stubbornly persisted in their disbelief. Following the drought, a dark cloud appeared in the sky. The people of 'Ad thought it was bringing rain, which would end the drought. But Prophet Hud AS warned them that it was not a cloud of mercy but one of punishment.

As Hud AS had forewarned, the cloud brought a violent windstorm lasting seven nights and eight days. The storm destroyed their homes and annihilated the people, turning their once vibrant region into ruins.

The Survival of Hud AS and the Believers

Only Prophet Hud AS and those who had believed in his message were spared. They had distanced themselves from the non-believers when the punishment was unleashed. After the destruction of 'Ad, Hud AS, and the remaining believers migrated to another land, where they continued to live their lives according to the teachings of Allah.

The story of Prophet Hud AS is a strong reminder of the consequences of arrogance, disbelief, and moral corruption. It shows that power and wealth are temporary, and what matters is one's faith, humility, and good deeds. It also emphasizes the importance of standing firm in adversity, as Prophet Hud AS did when delivering his message to a hostile audience.
