The Story of Prophet Zakariyah (Zechariah) AS

Zakariyah and His Devotion to Allah

Zakariyah was a prophet of Allah, mentioned in both the Quran and the Bible. He was from the lineage of Prophet Sulaiman (Solomon) and was given the responsibility of taking care of Maryam (Mary), the mother of Prophet Isa (Jesus). Zakariyah was a carpenter by profession and a devout servant of Allah. He was well respected in his community and known for his wisdom, righteousness, and fear of Allah.

The Custodianship of Maryam

Upon the death of Maryam's mother, Prophet Zakariyah became Maryam's caretaker, providing her with moral guidance and spiritual support. He built a separate room for her in the temple where she could worship Allah undisturbed. Zakariyah often found fresh fruits and provisions in her room, which Allah miraculously provided. Seeing this miracle inspired Zakariyah to ask Allah for a miracle of his own.

The Prayer for Offspring

Zakariyah and his wife were old and had been unable to have children. Seeing Maryam's miracles and knowing that Allah had the power to make the impossible possible, Zakariyah turned to Allah and asked for a child despite his and his wife's old age.

In his prayer, Zakariyah showed humility and acknowledged his frailty. He didn't ask for a child out of worldly desires, but he asked for a sign from Allah and someone who could carry on the prophetic mission after him.

The Miracle of Yahya (John)

Allah answered Zakariyah's prayers and sent Angel Jibril (Gabriel) to give him the good news of a son, Yahya (John). Zakariyah was astonished as he and his wife were both old, but the angel confirmed that Allah was capable of everything.

Yahya was a blessing to Zakariyah and his wife. From an early age, he showed wisdom and spiritual maturity. Yahya later became a prophet, carrying on his father's mission and making the way for Jesus.

The Legacy of Zakariyah

Prophet Zakariyah symbolized patience, faith, and trust in Allah's power. Despite his old age, he remained hopeful and prayerful, believing Allah could provide him with a child. His story is a testament to the power of sincere prayer and absolute trust in Allah's plan.

His legacy was carried on by his son, Yahya, a righteous prophet and a devoted servant of Allah. The story of Zakariyah serves as a reminder to never lose hope in Allah's mercy and to believe in His ability to do all things, no matter how impossible they may seem.

THE REMARKABLE MIRACLES OF PROPHET ZAKARIYAH (ZECHARIAH) AS

Prophet Zakariyah (AS), or Zechariah, is a revered prophet in Islam. He was known for his devotion, piety, and unwavering faith in Allah (SWT). Prophet Zakariyah (AS) was blessed with miracles that demonstrated the boundless mercy and power of Allah.

1. The Birth of Prophet Yahya (AS):

One of the most profound miracles associated with Prophet Zakariyah (AS) is the birth of his son, Prophet Yahya (John) (AS), in his old age. Both Zakariyah and his wife were quite old, and his wife was barren. Despite these circumstances, Zakariyah never lost faith in the mercy and benevolence of Allah (SWT).

The Quran mentions in Surah Al Imran (3:38-41) that Zakariyah prayed to Allah for an heir who would inherit Prophethood and carry on the divine message. In response to his prayer, Allah (SWT) announced that Zakariyah would have a son named Yahya, who would be a prophet. The birth of Prophet Yahya (AS) to an aged couple and from a barren woman was a miraculous event that illustrated Allah's ability to control the laws of creation.

"There did Zakariyah pray to his Lord, saying: 'O my Lord! Grant unto me from Thee a progeny that is pure: for Thou art He that heareth prayer!'" – (Quran 3:38)

2. Zakariyah's Ability to Speak Only through Symbols for Three Days:

When Zakariyah asked Allah for a sign to reassure him of this miraculous birth, he was rendered unable to speak to people for three days, except through symbols. He was told to remember and glorify Allah during this time.

"He said: "O my Lord! Give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." So Zakariyah came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening." – (Quran 3:41)

3. The Provision in the Mihrab:

One of the miracles associated with Zakariyah (AS) revolves around Maryam (Mary) (AS), whom he was entrusted to care for. Whenever Zakariyah visited her in her prayer chamber (mihrab), he would find her with sustenance - fresh out-of-season fruit.

"Every time that he entered (her) chamber to see her, he found her supplied with sustenance. He said: 'O Mary! Whence (comes) this to you?' She said: 'From Allah: for Allah Provides sustenance to whom He pleases without measure.'" – (Quran 3:37)

Prophet Zakariyah (AS)'s story is a beautiful tale of faith, patience, and reliance on Allah’s will. His unwavering trust in Allah's wisdom and power resulted in divine interventions that continue to inspire believers in the miraculous possibilities that faith can unfold.
